Lessons from Syria

For Future Stabilisation Efforts

ASI has won acclaim for managing complex projects to improve stability in opposition regions of war-torn Syria in the period 2013-2018.

This brief seeks to elucidate some of the lessons of five years of stabilisation assistance, not for purposes of review but to guide future stabilisation programmes in similar theatres of operation.

It is thus intended to be forward-thinking as well as retrospective. Drawing on donors’ own review of AJACS, it categorises lessons as related to strategy, substance and governance.
