Fostering Collaborative Frameworks for Improved Air Services and Economic Growth in the Pacific Region
Aviation is crucial for economic activity and development in Pacific Island countries, connecting them for tourism, trade, and access to services. However, challenges like geographical remoteness and fragmented air services hinder efficiency. P4A aims to enhance the aviation sector’s governance, safety, and coordination for sustainable economic development.
P4A offers an opportunity for deeper engagement in the aviation sector through a systematic, long-term approach. This initiative builds on previous investments in sustainable aviation connectivity.
P4A will support the implementation of a new International Development Policy in several ways, including:
- Promoting a sustainable, reliable aviation sector that enhances economic development through increased tourism and trade diversification, while improving access to employment and skills.
- Strengthening regional governance and aviation frameworks to better serve Pacific Island countries and improve representation in global aviation governance.
- Assisting countries and their state-owned enterprises in developing effective decision-making processes to boost economic opportunities.
- Integrating gender equity, disability, and social inclusion throughout the program, with a focus on women’s leadership and accessibility.
- Employing an innovative delivery approach that enhances existing capabilities in aviation.
- Leveraging government and private sector expertise to improve aviation outcomes and strengthen partnerships in the region.
Pacific governments, aviation authorities, airports, and airlines implement enhanced management, regulations, policies, and plans to strengthen the aviation sector and reform unsustainable practices.
Strengthened technical capability and implement harmonised processes and systems that improve the safety, quality, and reliability of aviation operations.
Participating governments and air service enterprises enhance connectivity between Pacific Island countries while strengthening regional and bilateral coordination and cooperation in regulatory and operational matters.
