Project Case Study
Advising on pension reform in Swaziland
Guiding Swaziland in the choice to convert to a pension fund
As part of Swaziland’s conversion of the provident fund to a pension fund, which began in 1993, we were commissioned in 1998 by the Swaziland National Provident Fund to provide some analysis of the different pension fund models available to help accelerate the conversion.
We provided technical assistance to the Fund, which involved comparing the benefits of the Defined Benefit Model, the Defined Contribution Model, and various hybrids, and presenting specific recommendations to guide the stakeholders in making an informed decision on the choice of an appropriate model.
