The UK Prosperity Fund’s Brazil Energy Programme (BEP) and the Brazil GEF Biogas Project, coordinated by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovations (MCTI) and implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), are joining forces to accelerate the transformation of waste into energy in Brazil.
The partnership aims to increase the use of biogas and biomethane in Brazil’s energy mix. These biofuels are low-carbon energy sources that can help Brazil to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on fossil fuels.
The partnership will facilitate the exchange of data and information, and strengthen exchange on policies and regulations that promote a low carbon energy transition by developing the biogas and biomethane market.
This will form part of BEP’s broader work to support Brazil’s transition to sustainable, clean energy which benefits disadvantaged sectors of the population.
