Adam Smith International loses two colleagues in Nairobi terrorist attack

London, 16 January 2019 – Adam Smith International (ASI) deeply regrets to announce the tragic loss of two of our colleagues in yesterday’s terrorist attack in Nairobi.

Abdalla Dahir, 33, and Feisal Ahmed, 31, both Somali-Kenyans, were killed on the terrace of a restaurant in the complex where the ASI office in Kenya is located. Their deaths were confirmed yesterday evening.

Both young men worked on the Somalia Stability Fund, a project managed by ASI on behalf of multiple donors to bring peace and prosperity to Somalia through more than 100 local community initiatives.

ASI safely evacuated 50 staff and consultants from its office when the explosion and gunfire erupted. The two colleagues died together at the outdoor restaurant within the complex.

This is the second time that ASI has faced loss of life through terrorist attacks in Nairobi. In 2013, an adviser, James Thomas, was caught in the attack on the Westgate shopping mall, where 71 people were killed by gunmen.
