Adam Smith International is currently seeking an experienced leader in international aid and development to join our senior management team. You will bring your technical expertise, business development and people leadership skills to the table and have the opportunity to strengthen your work in program delivery and development effectiveness.
About the role
As the Principal Manager you will be an integral member of Adam Smith International’s Asia Pacific team, working on various aspects of the Asia Pacific portfolio. You will play a fundamental role in our operating model, managing the delivery and performance of programs and contributing to our engagement strategies in the region as well as business development.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead the delivery of high-quality development programs, including on overall program performance, financial performance, and achievement of desired results
- Manage high level relationships with clients, key program contacts and stakeholders
- Build and maintain relationships with key staff at development agencies and donors, capable advisers and industry counterparts
- Support the development of a pipeline of new opportunities in the region and play a significant role in the production of high quality proposals
- Line management of project management team members
- Contribute to knowledge management and learning activities
You will have the following qualifications, experience and skills:
- Qualifications in a relevant field, with post graduate qualifications preferable
- Significant experience working with the Australian aid program and/or other development agencies in the region
- Strong understanding of our clients and the marketplace
- Understanding of how to align our commercial business development aims with our client’s priorities
- In-depth understanding of our industry and how to develop our business effectively in the short and longer-term
- Understanding of the theory and current trends in relevant technical or geographic areas
- Significant leadership ability, including people management skills
- Strong communication skills, including demonstrated complex proposal writing skills

ASEAN more broadly is serviced by a regional hub in Thailand.
Headquartered in Sydney, the company’s Asia Pacific office is responsible for the management of our portfolio of projects funded by the Australian Aid Program (managed by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade), the New Zealand Aid Programme (managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade) and other donors operating in Asia Pacific.
