DFAT reporting unacceptable behaviour

What It Is?

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) provides dedicated reporting channels for raising concerns about unacceptable behaviour in DFAT workplaces and programs. These channels form part of DFAT’s integrity and safeguarding framework, ensuring that allegations of misconduct, harassment, exploitation, fraud, or abuse are addressed appropriately, fairly, and confidentially.

When Should Reporting Take Place?

As with ASI’s internal Speak Up Policy and Code of Conduct, concerns should first be raised through internal mechanisms wherever appropriate. However, if these are not suitable, available, or effective, individuals may report directly to DFAT using its formal reporting channels.

Who Can Use It?

The DFAT reporting channels are available to:

  • DFAT employees, contractors, and consultants,
  • Implementing partners and suppliers delivering DFAT-funded programs,
  • Program beneficiaries and stakeholders in the delivery chain, and
  • Any member of the public who has witnessed or experienced unacceptable behaviour connected to DFAT.

What Can Be Reported?

Concerns can be raised about any form of unacceptable behaviour, including but not limited to:

  • Bullying, harassment, or discrimination,
  • Sexual exploitation, abuse, or harassment (SEAH),
  • Fraud, corruption, or misuse of DFAT funds or assets,
  • Conflicts of interest or abuse of authority, and
  • Any breach of DFAT’s Code of Conduct or safeguarding obligations.
