Country

Democratic Republic of the Congo

Despite extraordinary mineral wealth, fertile land, forests and rivers, DRC is one of the poorest countries in the world.

Decades of conflict have cost millions of lives and 4.5 million people are still displaced from their homes – the highest number in Africa. DRC has suffered devastating public health emergencies, including Ebola, yellow fever and cholera epidemics. At the same time DRC has enormous potential for growth, trade and investment, drawing on its natural resources.

ASI has been deeply involved in developing markets, financing skills and providing advice for smaller and medium businesses, with a particular focus on encouraging Congolese women entrepreneurs. We have also supported the development of the governance of the DRC mining industry.
