Despite making huge progress, with a consistent average growth rate of 7% and a halving of poverty levels, Bangladesh is still has many people living poverty.
Development is hampered by poor governance, as well as social problems such as violence against women and the looming threat of radicalism. Since 2017 there has been a major humanitarian crisis because hundreds of thousands of Rohingya fleeing Myanmar have migrated to Bangladesh. Bangladesh is also highly vulnerable to natural disasters such as floods and cyclones.
ASI has worked on mainstreaming green growth, governance and anti-corruption, as well as improving working conditions, especially for women.
