The situation in Palestine remains politically complex, with the peace process stalled; divisions widening on the status of Jerusalem, settlements and the right of return; increasing distance between the politics and socio-economic circumstances of the West Bank and Gaza; and persistent weaknesses in governance and security provision.

ASI has been active in Palestine since 1999 across the spectrum of negotiations, security sector reform, and governance, working on behalf of the UK and others. For 12 years we ran a Negotiations Support Unit with the Palestine Liberation Organisation, and worked with the Palestinian Authority to build some of the key functions of the state, including working with the Prime Minister’s office for a number of years. In more recent years we have worked on security sector reform, support to civil society, conflict reduction as well as public financial management.
