Libya’s recent history has been dominated by the 42-year rule of Muammar Gaddafi and the continuing chaos that followed his ousting in 2011 by a Western-assisted armed rebellion.
Libya has been a launching point for migrants to Europe and has experienced increased Islamist militancy.
In the immediate post-Gaddafi period, ASI was instrumental in setting up the basic machinery of government and more recently worked on developing Libyan leadership.
